Burnout Symptoms & Diagnosis

Burnout / Burn-out / Being Burned Out

  • Psychotherapy Plön Holstein
  • Psychotherapy Hamburg Altona Ottensen

Symptoms:

  • Are you already tired in the morning?
  • Do you feel frustrated by work, burned out, drained, exhausted, powerless, emotionally hardened, and do you have to strain yourself too much?
  • Do you have the feeling that you haven't achieved anything meaningful there?
  • Can you no longer empathize with your clients and deal with their problems, so that you're no longer interested in what becomes of them?
  • Have you become more indifferent toward people, so that you feel burdened dealing with them because it feels tense?
  • Can you no longer handle emotional matters calmly?
  • More and more people are falling ill over a prolonged period due to overwhelming overwork. Many people work over 60 hours a week under stress, time pressure, pressure to justify themselves, and performance pressure, and no longer lead a private life. They are afraid of not meeting work goals anymore or being fired. At some point, they live with the perception of being failures, of having failed in life... Often mobbing also plays an important role here.
  • Deep anxieties such as existential anxiety, fear of criticism, failure, mistakes emerge and become unbearable: fear of the boss, of colleagues, of customers, of students... grow. Their own demands for perfectionism, performance, recognition... are repeatedly not met.
  • Some people were initially enthusiastic about their work, highly engaged and hyperactive. Over time, they feel burned out, nervous, restless, exhausted, powerless, depressed and can no longer sleep, can no longer recover. Vacation no longer helps. A burnout / burn-out / being burned out has developed. Often these people hardly take vacation anymore because they "have to work"... Some develop headaches and back pain, stomach, heart and intestinal problems, tinnitus. They experience a nervous breakdown, gradually fall into depression and long-term work incapacity.
  • They neglect or forgo their healthy needs and wishes, their hobbies and preferences, their social and family relationships and responsibilities. They isolate themselves ever deeper in the spiral of work. Some begin to become more irritable, suspicious and hostile toward other people. Some resort to sedatives, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, compensatory addictive behaviors... Such behaviors worsen the vicious cycle.
  • See above:
    • Exhaustion model of depression
    • Helplessness model of depression
